先週、私はきびきび動くすぐれもののオンライン・ブックマーク・サービス、Pinboardを紹介した。簡単に印象を言えば、Yahooが買収して以後、あれこれごたごたと機能を肥大化させて鈍重なサービスにしてしまう前のDeliciousに似ている。

ファウンダーのMaciej Ceglowskiは元Yahoo、元Twitterのエンジニアだが、TechCrunchの記事が出た後、「新しいアカウント開設の依頼が殺到したので、リソースを拡大しなければならなくなった」とブログ記事書いている。

今日、Ceglowskiはアカウント開設を依頼してきた相手にメールを送り、ベータ・アカウント作成の際に若干の費用が必要になることを告げた。

このプロジェクトはCeglowskiの本業ではないので、新規ユーザーから料金を徴収するというのは無謀なアイディアではない。もし料金を支払うユーザーがたくさんいるようだったら、Pinboardプロジェクトの優先順位を上げることもできる。ただし、私ならちょっと違うやり方をすると思う。つまり最初の1週間を無料トライアル期間として、その後は料金を支払わなければアカウントを削除してしまう。やはり実際に体験させたほうが財布を開かせるのに効果的だ。〔以下英文〕
