ワシントンに本拠を置くBordeeはRuby on Railsで開発された新しい無料サービスの開始を準備中。このサービスを利用すると、どんなドメイン名上にでもトピック別の掲示板を設置できる。Bordeeのこのアイディアは決して新しいものではない。Google、Yahoo、Ezboard、Groupeeその他、無料の掲示板サービスはすでにいっぱいある。だが私はBordeeが掲示板のアイディアにひとひねり加えて、どんなウェブサイトの上にでもディスカッショングループを作れるようにした点を気に入っている。土曜の午後の記事の話題にふさわしい。
Bordeeを利用するにはFirefoxまたはIEのプラグインを使うのがいちばん良い(このサイトはまだベータ中でFirefox は現在リンク切れのため私は試していない）。 Bordeeの掲示板を開設しているウェブサイトを訪問するとプラグインのボタンが点灯する。さらにこのプラグインは訪問したウェブサイト上に掲示板を設置することができる。掲示板の階層は比較的単純だ。各ドメインではトップレベルの掲示板がひとつだけ作れる。またページごとにひとつずつサブカテゴリーの掲示板が作れる。さらにその下にいくつでもトピック別の掲示板を追加していくことができる。
このサービスを面白く思った主な理由は、既存のウェブサイトに対して、そのサイトのコントロールの及ばない区域に、しかしそのサイトの内容に随伴して、ユーザー発信コンテンツによる「影の=shadow」ウェブサイトを付加できる点だ。 ブラウザのプラグインがこの両者を結びつける役割を果たす。Shadows (われわれの記事はこちら)その他、多くのサイトがこの分野で似たような試みをしている。
